A Lifetime of Stamps

I send a sizeable donation (for me) to the Southern Poverty Law Center
to support the defense of a young African- American woman
who is unlawfully arrested, then raped in a South Carolina jail.
now a slew of smarmy charities solicit me for money every week.
not that I have anything against whales,
but saving them is not something I contemplate as I greet every morning.
the most beautiful cat I ever saw was under the wheel of a 4 ton Mack truck
so why would I  give money so it is easier for others to adopt them?
literary magazines are less stable than most women I have dated or married
so they should go gently into the night rather than beg for new life from me.

The only saving grace from all these unwanted solicitations is
each time I am sent a stamped self addressed envelope.
I carefully remove the stamp generously supplied by the charity
and use it to pay one of my many bills from uncharitable corporations.
charity, as they say, begins at home.
